The Bible has numerous commands for God\u2019s people to sing, and resounds with examples of God\u2019s people doing it. So, as we strive to follow Scripture, here are some of the main features of our church\u2019s music.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-4\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>We sing to God<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-5\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>Since God is the only rightful recipient of our praise and the sole source of all good, our worship is focused on honoring Him and seeking His face.<\/p>\n<p>King David, speaking to God, says,<\/p>\n<p><em>Because Your\u00a0favor is better than life,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>My lips will praise You.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>So I will bless You\u00a0as long as I live;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I will\u00a0lift up my hands in Your name.<\/em><br \/>\n\u206d \u2013 Psalm 63:3-4<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-6\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>We sing to each other<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-7\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>Scripture teaches us to not only sing to God, but to sing to one another. Colossians 3:16 commands us to admonish\u00a0\"one another\u00a0with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs,\u00a0singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.\" In our singing, we edify one another with sound doctrine and encourage each other to<br \/>\nobey it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-8\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>We love to sing great songs<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-9\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>What is a great song? It\u2019s a song that is faithful to the teaching of Scripture and is skillfully written so that it fires our affections for God and His truth. We aren\u2019t too concerned if our songs are old or new, so long as they skillfully express biblical truth and build us up in the faith.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-10\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>We love to sing the Psalms<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"mp-stacks-text-area mp-stacks-text-area-11\"><div class=\"mp-brick-text\"><p>God\u2019s people have been singing the Psalms for thousands of years. We are glad to join this holy tradition that spans the centuries and flourishes in widely diverse cultures. Of course, we sing the psalms not simply because of ancient tradition, but because the Bible commands it. As Colossians 3:16 says, \"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.\" By singing from the divinely inspired songbook of the Bible, we learn to relate to God in ways that honor Him, whether we are petitioning Him, praising Him or thanking Him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yiv7974277419\"><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\"><i class=\"yiv7974277419\"><span class=\"yiv7974277419\">Praise\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span><span class=\"yiv7974277419small-caps\"><i class=\"yiv7974277419\"><span class=\"yiv7974277419\">Lord<\/span><\/i><\/span><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\"><i class=\"yiv7974277419\"><span class=\"yiv7974277419\">!<\/span><\/i><\/span><i class=\"yiv7974277419\"><span class=\"yiv7974277419\"><br class=\"yiv7974277419\" \/><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\">Praise the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"yiv7974277419small-caps\">Lord<\/span><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\">, my soul!<\/span><br class=\"yiv7974277419\" \/><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\">I will praise the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"yiv7974277419small-caps\">Lord<\/span><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\">\u00a0while I live;<\/span><br class=\"yiv7974277419\" \/><span class=\"yiv7974277419text\">I will\u00a0sing praises to my God while I\u00a0have my being.
